Described as a documentation or archive of the final years of RM’s twenties, Indigo is the debut studio album of South Korean rapper, released on December 2, 2022, through Big Hit Music.
The album marks the RM’s first full-length body of work since Mono (2018) and comprises 10 tracks and features appearances by Erykah Badu, Anderson .Paak, Tablo of Epik High, Kim Sa-wol, Paul Blanco, Mahalia, Colde, Youjeen of Cherry Filter, and Park Ji-yoon.
The ninth track, “Wild Flower”, a collaboration with Youjeen, was released alongside the album as its lead single, together with an accompanying music video. With the single, RM became the third BTS member to debut as a solo artist after J-Hope and Jin.
Indigo captures RM’s thoughts and worries, giving a charming insight into the mentality of a global superstar.
When I was working on my mixtapes, I was more focused on asserting my thoughts or my tastes, so it didn’t leave enough room for listeners to digest them. Indigo still explores my emotions and learnings through my experiences. It’s more open in a way people can easily relate to. Indigo represents my 20s and documents my growth as a person and artist.
Usually, I have a specific concept or genre in mind when I begin working on music. But this time, I just focused on each track. I thought about what fits best for each song, and how I can put them together into one album. As a result, the album became an eclectic collection of music that reflects my thoughts and experiences. Many long-time fans might find the album quite new and unexpected. Firstly, eight out of ten tracks have featured artists. Secondly, all ten tracks are in their own genre, not only pop or hip-hop.

The most important song, I started it in 2019—the main single “Wild Flower.” I think I started to write three songs in 2019. And most of these songs were made to be complete in 2021 and early 2022. They were almost complete before the decisions about solo careers and stuff. But I had until this September [2022] to complete the sound and the arrangements.
