“Pretty When U Cry” was the single for May of that year, and features a voicemail recording from my friend Ellen, the only other British kid in my year in high school. My mix of Californian and Wenglish (Welsh + English) identity in my music has always been a playground for me and it was another practice of including friends in my music. This is one of my favorite songs ever written, that perfect blend of trap heat emotion with the angsty lyrical content really gave birth to one of my biggest songs to date. It is also track 9, and 9 is a huge number for me. I was born on 9/9/1998 which in numerology adds up to 9/9/9, and this album came out on my 18th birthday in 2016 (2+0+1+6=9) & 1+8=9 so it’s no surprise to me that the 9th song turned out the way it did. No better way to end my first ever album I think :)
