Sticky Lyrics

[Chorus]
What did you do?
Got me confused-used

Spinning, spinning 'round and 'round
Sticky, sticky, off the ground
Slipping 'til you let me drown
Hate me then and love me now

[Verse 1]
You got me wondering where the spunk went
Where the funk went
Not who I'm in love with

You got me wondering while you roaming
Something told me I would end up lonely

[Pre-Chorus]
You know I cannot shake you
You know I cannot break you

You only fool me, then you lose me
Then right back I take you
You know we're bad together
You don't want this forever
Then I look stupid, call me foolish
But I'll do whatever

[Chorus]
What did you do?
Got me confused-used

Spinning, spinning 'round and 'round
Sticky, sticky, off the ground
Slipping 'til you let me drown
Hate me then and love me now
[Verse 2]
Let's play, let's pretend
I could have my way
What you gonna say if I ever walk away?
Let's play, let's pretend
You could treat me fair
Maybe you won't scare me
Maybe you would care

[Pre-Chorus]
You know I'd wait for you
Can't stay away from you
I'll stick around when things are falling down
I need a reason for me to leave him
Zigzag, circus
I don't know that sticky-icky is the potion
(Sticky-icky, sti-sticky-icky)

[Chorus]
What did you do? (What did you do?)
Got me confused-used (Got me confused, I'm confused)
Spinning, spinning 'round and 'round
Sticky, sticky, off the ground
Slipping 'til you let me drown
Hate me then and love me now
(Why won't you love me now?)

Genius Annotation

“Sticky” is the lead single off Ravyn Lenae’s sophomore project, Crush. Teaming up with Compton-raised singer-songwriter and producer Steve Lacy, the duo’s R&B, funk, and alternative waves combine perfectly for a groovy track about the unpredictability of a love interest.

In a now-deleted tweet, Lacy revealed that “Sticky” is the “only iPhone beat on the project so that [one’s] special.”

‘Sticky’ is about the really weird part of a relationship where you know you shouldn’t be together but you’re gonna try to make it work anyway. Or like, you breakup but you’re still randomly seeing each other, or I don’t know—just the merry-go-round effect. The video simulates that, like the round and round, the cycle of us breaking up, trying again, and really can’t get enough of each other but we hate each other.

It was dope because [Ravyn]’s so young and she’s not locked into a certain style or vocal range so anything I’d give her she’s like ‘I got you,‘“ he said. "It’s also a different producer side of me. It’s entirely produced by me, the first thing that I’m entirely producing. When I got the opportunity I looked at is as like—Yes, this is my Pharrell/Kelis, my Timbaland/Aaliyah, my J*Davey moment. I had to take it.

The inspiration for “Sticky” was reaching that super weird point in a relationship where you’re like, “Uh, do we love each other? Or are we just together because we’re lonely and don’t really wanna go out and see other people?” Or just like the merry-go-round effect where you guys break up and get back together then break up again. Just the really weird part where you know you shouldn’t be with this person because they kind of treat you bad, but you love them. My inspiration stems from my experiences, as well as my friends, my mom, movies, other artist’s songs. You know, anywhere or anything can really spark an idea in me.
