Shiver for me, girl
Deliver for me, my darling
Ah, pushing up to you
A river that runs right through you
Swim for your smile in a Blue Rock Quarry
Make it for me, baby, you won't be sorry
Shiver for me now
Deliver for me, my darling

Miles and miles of nether worlds I roam
Settle for love, you're never far from home
Carry me down into the waters of
Carry me down into the water of love
Two of us were made of angel's dust
I've been around, but not around enough

Shadow my free form
A woman that I could keep warm
Quiver for me, girl
Give me your head and shoulders
Shot from the pages of love and glory
Sleeping next to you and I'm in your story
Shadow my free form
A woman that I could keep warm

Miles and miles of nether worlds I roam
Settle for love, I'm never far from home
Carry me down into the waters of
Carry me down into the water of love
Two of us were made of angel's dust
I've been around, but not around enough

Let's go
I know I make it for two, and then
Intuition's only what you take from it
I know I make it for two, and then
You were there and I was fortunate
I know I make it for two, and then
Messy bed a part of cheating I won't fall for you
I know I make it for two, I make it for two, I make it for two and

Shiver for me now
Deliver for me, my darling
A living that I could
Be giving to you, my sweet love
Swim for your smile in a Blue Rock Quarry
Make it for me, baby, you won't be sorry
Shot from the pages of love and glory
Sleeping next to you and I'm in your dreams

Settle for love
Settle for love
Settle for love

Are me2817 and I the only ones who think that this song is sexy?

It seems to be about the difference between sex and love, and the pleasure of making both intertwine into one. Depending on who you ask some may think that the two are separate entities.
The whole first verse seems to refer to lovemaking..'Shiver, Deliver, Pushin...right thru you, you won't be sorry.' In the second verse...'Quiver...give me your head and shoulders.' When he says "Sleeping next to you and I'm in your dream," it reminds of the aftermath of a great lovemaking session...when you literally have sugar plums dancing in your head immediately after the act. Need I say more?

Now before you go calling me a horndog, let me explain. What he is expressing is quite lovely actually. He talks about the joy of sex...as well as the greater joy of true love. He'd obviously rather have both, but if he had to choose he'd "Settle for love."

Like all the new songs on By The Way, the lyrics are almost nonsense when they are read, and they take on a new, fresh meaning when you hear them. This song is gorgeous, and Anthony's voice counterbalanced by the rest of the Chili Peppers ensures that it will be a favorite for a large number of people, not just myself.

    Song Meaning

Ok, about the title: listen to John Frusciante's Warm Tape commentary on you tube; he confirms the title is about the fact this song was done on a synthesizer. Some research later,I realized he was referring to analogue warmth, a technical term meaning this song was not digitally recorded. So the title does not affect the lyrics in any way.

Now if I could just figure out what the heck the line missing from the CD jacket says...

this is song it's sweet, represents love i think. I think that anthony is in love with and what he says is that they are in love so ¿why be scared of? he is she is love, and she has to trust he.

This is my least favourite song on by the way it sounds kind of tame compared to all the others but its still not a bad song and is not the worst RHCP song ever

The whole CD is tame. This song is kinda eerie with whatever's playing in back of the verses. But the chorus has some bite to it. And the end is pretty sweet. I think this is another one of Anthony's prose(is that the word I'm looking for?)-type stream of consciousness songs about love. Which is pretty cool cause those types of songs really tend to convey the message of letting love overtake you and letting it flow through you, to and from other people.

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
