Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.
You're so pretty the way you are
You're so pretty the way you are
And you have no reason
To be so insolent to me
You're so pretty the way you are
La, la
You got to say it if you want to
But you won't change me
La, la
You got to say it if you want to
But you won't change me
You're so pretty the way you are
You're so pretty the way you are
And you have no reason
To be so insolent to me
You're so pretty the way you are
La, la
You got to say it if you want to
But you won't change me
La, la
You got to say it if you want to
But you won't change me
You're so pretty the way you are
And you have no reason
To be so insolent to me
You're so pretty the way you are
La, la
You got to say it if you want to
But you won't change me
La, la
You got to say it if you want to
But you won't change me
You're so pretty the way you are
You're so pretty the way you are
And you have no reason
To be so insolent to me
You're so pretty the way you are
La, la
You got to say it if you want to
But you won't change me
La, la
You got to say it if you want to
But you won't change me

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
This is kinda like my feelings towards some of my ex's, i mean - if they change you, you aren't you anymore!
Curious song that hinges on one word: insolent. It's hard to understand what anything means after that. The idea of insolence creates images of two people, one older and more "traditional" than the other, one a younger person with "spirit". But there seems to be no definition between the two people, and the exact point of contention is unclear, so I think she's talking to an earlier version of herself, a memory that won't leave her alone perhaps. She is both the insolent one and the condescending, in conflict with herself.
Has anyone else heard the remix on the Complete Sessions version? Good stuff.
To me this song is about someone who is telling herself shes pretty and shes saying to her partner she's not gunna change herself for him...so he might be trying to change her..esspecially her looks
quite possibly a song about one of her lovers, one that has a self esteem problem.
That's how I see it.<br /> I had a boyfriend who had a self esteem issue, (I dunno why, he was adorable) and battled with depression. I kinda dedicated that song to him.
This sounds to my ears like this/ I imagine an anorexic girl that thinks that she's not beautiful I mean skiny enough so she is so insolent to everybody around her,to her mother, friends, when they are trying to tell herwhat she's doing to herself She doesn't see her self for what she is in what she became of,it's like: they're insolting her ,she's not insolting them, she's deffending herself. And ''you got to say it if you want to ,but you wont change me''is a response of that girl to others that she will not change her mind about it. For example.
I thought it was about another woman being mean-spirited and taking her down out of jealousy. She responds by saying there's no reason to be rude and that she won't heed to the criticism.
People full of complexes tend also to be unkind to the others. Maybe Cranberries turn to such a kind of person in this song. It says simply: "You are good as you are, and I am good as I am, too. So you needn't be so rude. 'Cause if you will, I can't forbid you to do it, but won't exert any influence on me". That's all. So simple, so wise.
