In waves the ships have all sailed to the sea
Well, do you wanna wait or leave with me tonight
Cross your heart and pray
The ocean will take us all the way in

First we are ever to fall off of the Earth
We must be the
First ones in the world to fall off of the Earth

We could be, soon as our needs are fed
You'll give in to me and the whole heartache
Makes me feel alive, same typical offering
And you always knew we make it all the way in

First we are ever to fall off of the Earth
We must be the
First ones in the world to fall off of the Earth

It could be soon, as
The carnivals empty, I need you to take me home

God help me, God help me, God help me, God
God help me, God help me, God help me, God
God help me, God help me, God help me, God
God help me, God help me, God help me, God
God help me, God help me, God help me, God

Also may I suggest the following....

Get in your car, and drive far away from your house. All alone of course, and have this song playing LOUD. Drive farther than you've ever driven before, preferabley through a deserted area..... the song makes you feel like you're the only person on earth.

I totally agree with you cyanide and dougie, I see this as a reference to Columbus taking a big risk and crossing the sea. The big thing about sailing the ocean is you have to go with its flow, and I think Chino is basically saying how you two should just go with the flow of things.

"We could be... soon as our needs are fed"

First your ego and hers must be fed, superficiality in physical attraction and pleasure must exist between you two. Only then is it possible to break through the barrier and connect on a deeper level. But it is something you do not entirely know.

It is awesome how the Deftones relates a relationship to the journey of sailing the ocean, and while perilous physical exploration was prevalent back in the days of old, we now have to make the same journey, just someplace deeper--within our minds and in our hearts.

    very good song

i think it has something to do with relationships and following the normal standard of them. he dosent seem too into it "Makes me feel alive/same typical offering/" anyways he seems desperate too. i dunno this shite is cryptic

i agree with dougie352002, this shit is cryptic and very ambient. just taking a stab at it, i think the chorus sheds light on the core meaning of this song- "First we are, ever to fall off of the earth.. WE must be the first ones in the world to fall off of the earth"

Back in the day, everyone thought that the earth was flat and by Columbus attempting to sail around the world, he would "fall off the edge of the world". In a sense, Columbus was doing something dangerous and risky. i think the song is about being brave and taking a relationship into uncharted territory, or maybe trusting and loving so much that a couple reaches a new and unknown area of love. that by "falling off of the earth", is taking a plunge into the unknown with someone special. i could be very wrong though.

I agree with the ocean/risk interprtation. anyone else realize that the southern tip of both south america and africa are named the cape of good hope and cape horn? both having cape in their name. some famous explorers made a name for themselves by risking sailing around each (magellan being one of them). and often tragedy resulted in some of these voyages...

First I'll tell you what I think it's SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT. Then I'll tell you WHAT IT MEANS TO ME.

I think it's supposed to be about meeting a girl/guy that is really fake, and superficial. I like to call them "pop people." Anyway, it's about meeting one of those people, and feeding their ego to get what you want. Sex/money/ect. OR It's about two people doing drugs, which is extremly obvious from the lyrics if you ask me. The ocean is a metapore for drugs, falling off the earth is about the feeling of being high.

Now what it means to me personally is the following. I was in a relationship with a girl for about two years, and during that time I stopped talking to all my friends, and family. Eventually they stopped calling me, and kinda forgot about. Then when me and the girl broke up, I felt like I fell off the earth. I put all my friend and family on the backburner for so long that I had no would to talk to, hang out with, etc.

the final part 'god help me, god help me, god help me, god' is really powerful. I definately believe the song is about exploring something and this is his final statement. He's completely lost...

I think it's about everyone has a relationship, like everyone is ahead of him (ships have all sailed) , and this guy is asking a girl out(Well do you wanna wait or leave with me tonight) and he's telling her to hope it works out (Cross your heart and pray the ocean will take us all the way in...)

They want to be the first ones to discover love. (we must be the first ones in the world to fall off the earth) kind of how before, people thought the world was flat and that they'd fall off before columbus discovered that it was round. Yeah.

It's not working out, his needs are being fulfilled. They will be in love as soon as they get what they want (We could be... soon as our needs are fed) but he thinks that she'll have her heart broken if she gives into him (You'll give in to me and the whole heartache). It will make him feel worthy that someone would get hurt by him becayse they actually care what he thinks/feels ( Makes me feel alive) but those are just thoughts of his, but it ends up somewhat working out ( you always knew we make it all the way in)

But in the end, it gets boring, it should be fun, but he feels empty (The carnival's empty)

    The relationship doesn't work.

When I heard chino screaming "God Help Me! God Help me!" I picture someone in the ocean, drowing, with no one to call for help because no one is around, so he turns to God to help him. It's his last cry.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
