I always believed in futures
I hope for better
In November
I try the same losing lucky numbers
It could be a cold night
For a lifetime
Hey now
You can't keep saying endlessly
My darling
How long until this affects me?

Say hello to good times (say hello)
Trade up for the fast ride
We close our eyes while the nickel and dime
Take the streets
Completely

I always could count on futures
If things would look up
They look up
Why? So hard to find balance
Between living decent
And the cold and real
Hey now
What is it you think you see?
My darling
Now's the time to disagree

Say hello to good times (say hello)
Trade up for the fast ride
We close our eyes while the nickel and dime
Take the streets
Completely

Hey now
The past is told by those who win
My darling
What matters is what hasn't been
Hey now
We're wide-awake and we're thinking
My darling
Believe your voice can mean something

Say hello to good times (say hello)
Trade up for the fast ride
We close our eyes while the nickel and dime
Take the streets
Completely
We close our eyes while the nickel and dime
Take the streets
Completely

First off, this album is amazing! This song has many multiple meanings. Of course its about the upcoming election in Nov. "I hope for better in November" and thats when you can vote! Its also talking about the current state of your own life. So hay hello to good times (the times we remember) trade up for the fast ride (we need excitement in our lives) and the best lines of the song "Why is it so hard to find balance Between living decent and the cold and real" describes the American family perfect in todays world. And the last lines of the song "Hey now, the past is told by those who win My darling, what matters is what hasn't been Hey now, we're wide awake and we're thinking My darling, believe your voice can mean something" You have to believe your voice does make a difference in this world whether it be in an election or in your own decisions.

Just want to say the whole FUTURES album is SUPREME!! I think this song is about some guy wants abetter future for himself and his "darling", wants to invest their assets (stocks or whatever) "trade up for the for the fast ride" building something worthy for them. It's an optimistic song, he's convinced he can get them better.

D'oh! Above entry seems to be pants...this is from MTV: "The song is about George W. Bush, yeah. It's about being dissatisfied with how things are going and about greed taking over," frontman Jim Adkins said. "The speakers [in the song] are coming from a place where they've done everything right — a successful career, financial stability — but they're still getting squashed by the larger greed. They're taking it to the man." Gotta love Jim!

I agree with the MTV statment. Financially, my parents earn above 30,000 pounds per year, to get college grants etc.. you need to be earning under that amount, but we dont get that, so we have enough money to pay for our hosue car bills holidays etc.. and thast it we have no money left over for other stuff, and it seems as though all the people who earn just under 30k and get all these benefits actually get more money than us we are stuck in the middle cos we get screwed over by the government and so the people who cant be arsed to work end up with more and we arn't rich so we can only just get by with the money we earn. sucks really. but yeah, i can see hwo the song relates to that. :)

Strangely enough, this is actually my least favorite song on the new album. Great song, but all the other songs are better in my opinion.

if i lived in america...possibly. You guys should move to Scotland. There's no political bias just a beautiful country. A country with a future and no presidents intent on ruining it for everyone. Good song Jim. Makes you think...
