Hey little babe you're changing
Babe are you feeling sore?
It ain't no use in pretending
You don't wanna play no more

It's plain that you ain't no baby
What would your mother say?
You're all dressed up like a lady
How come you behave this way?

Sail away sweet sister
Sail across the sea
Maybe you'll find somebody
To love you half as much as me
My heart is always with you
No matter what you do
Sail away sweet sister
I'll always be in love with you

Forgive me for what I told you
My heart makes a fool of me
You know that I'll never hold you
I know that you gotta be free, yeah

Sail away sweet sister
Sail across the sea
Maybe you'll find somebody
To love you half as much as me
Take it the way you want it
But when they let you down my friend
Sail away sweet sister
Back to my arms again

Hot child don't you know you're young
You got your whole life ahead of you?
And you can throw it away too soon
Way too soon

Sail away sweet sister
Sail across the sea
Maybe you'll find somebody's
Gonna love you half as much as me
My heart is always with you
No matter what you do
Sail away sweet sister
I'll always be in love with you

This song is definitely NOT about a 'sister' in the literal sense. "What would YOUR mother say"... Also, he is clearly "in love" with the girl, which is a lot different than simply loving someone. I believe he calls her 'sister', possibly because she is a Christian, which would explain the lines; "Hot child don't you know you're young You got your whole life ahead of you? And you can throw it away too soon Her virginity possibly?? We are clearly talking about a girl who is coming of age so to speak. Another possibility is that their relationship was very close, but not physically intimate, creating a dynamic between the two that resembles that of a brother and sister. Maybe he looked out for her the way a brother would his younger sister. It's obviously a very sad song. Axl Rose used to sing the chorus as an intro before Guns N' Roses played sweet child o' mine. He really captures the essence of the song I think. The writer is in great pain coz shes leaving him. Yet he still loves her beyond words.

This song is pure brilliance, can't believe no one has commented yet. I think it's about a woman leaving you but not for another man and you know she will return to you some day, you will always love her.

It's about a kid sister growing up too quickly... I think. And her brother's unconditional love for her no matter what path she chooses.

It is about a sister. Probably a kid sister too, but it relates alot to my big sister and the stuff that's happened with her. This song has helped me through some pretty tough times.

The song is to the sister he never had. Well, that's hat the name of the song says, 'Sail away sweet sister (to the sister i never had).' It is possible that it is a bout a christian girl, bur what does 'to the sister I never had' mean then?

ok listen you kids... first of all freddy mercury was not only the most influenicial man to rock ever he was the best writer ever....

as you know freddy mercury was gay he died of aids and i dont believe he was christain nor was this girl...

i believe he wrote this song over a girl he considered his sister i believe it was a good freind of his who was a girl and he never got to tell her his feelings for her and she left so he writes... Sail away sweet sister Sail across the sea Maybe you'll find somebody To love you half as much as me My heart is always with you No matter what you do Sail away sweet sister I'll always be in love with you

as you know queen is from england DUH! so i think she left to America...

i believe it was a girl he never got to express his love to... before she left...

this song really hits home for me.... i lost a freind who i was in love with and never told her and than she left.... but we reunited and i told her...

so this part means the world to me Sail away sweet sister Back to my arms again

This song was written by Brian, not Freddie.

Maybe the guy's sister is going off to become a Killer Queen.

I reckon this song is about someone who is probably a pretty close friend of the person singing. Most likely someone they grew up with and so is like a sister to them (but not an actual sister). The 'sister' is most probably a few years younger, and the singer grew up and fell in love with her, but she grew up and he never told her, though it looks like she probably fell in love with someone else, then she left.
