Oh if you're losing sleep...
Oh if you're losing sleep, scared of shadows.
See it's just a chair, see the clothes hang there.
Oh don't go losing sleep, scared of shadows.

Oh don't feel bad.
Well I never have, since I got you, my Emmylou.

You wear your socks to bed, wear your socks to bed.
That's what I do.
Oh c'mon sleepyhead, get yourself to bed.
Don't go losin', oh, the nighttime.

Oh, don't feel bad.
Well, I never have, since I got you, my Emmylou.

You are loved, you are loved, you are loved.
You are loved, you are loved, you are loved.
You are loved, you are loved, you are loved.
You are loved, you are loved, you are loved.

Oh now, don't feel bad.
Well I never have.
Now that I've got you, my Emmylou.
No don't feel bad.
Well I never have, now that I've got you, my Emmylou.

I feel like he is telling the woman he loves that she doesn't need to be scared of anything because he is there and he will love and protect her!:) And also that he doesn't feel scared since he's had her, so she shouldn't be scared either!

I think he's talking to his little daughter. He's telling her that's it's ok to be scared, that he's there now. He tells her over and over how much he loves her and how much she means to him. She wears her socks to bed just like he does, and he notices that and it makes him love her even more, to see how they are the same.

I know this probably wasn't Vance Joy's intention, but this song reminds me very much of someone dear to me who committed suicide in his 20s. I stumbled upon this song just a few days after it happened and it just sounded like what I'd like to have told him if I knew what he was going through - don't be scared, I'm like you, I'm here for you, your existence helps me cope, you are loved. So painful.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.
