this song is great, i downloaded it b/c im obsessed with a guy named tyler, and i think its really creepy about the stalking thing.

Well, I don't know what it means I'm a big fight club fan...now stay with me here...one of the main characters in fight club is named "Tyler". The end song in "fight club" is a song by the "pixies" called Where is my mind"....these two songs are remarkably similar..."Tyler" is the alternate personality of Jack...

So I think this song is supposed to be the alternate personality to "where is my mind"

This song is about rape. I have read articles where Todd Lewis admits this. I had a hard time realizing this as well, but upon further investigation, you can get this idea from the following:

"And she runs, And she waits. And I wait."

This is a direct reference to his stalking. He is waiting for her, waiting for a vulnerable moment when her guard is down as we see later in the song.

"We can drive to anyplace, Day and night, to cross this state."

He is referring to when he kidnaps her, they can drive anywhere they please. Or rather, anywhere he pleases.

"I find a window in the kitchen, And I let myself in."

He is breaking into her house at night.

"I hear her call out to me. I hear the fear in her voice. She pulls the covers tighter. I press against the door."

She is scared. Most people who are awaiting their significant other are not in fear of them coming into their room. She is also pulling the covers tighter, a further sign that she is trying to escape. This gives it its dark connotation.

Of course, all of what I have stated above can be interpretted differently to illustrate someone who is breaking into their girlfriend's house late at night to be with them. So, my feeling is it can be looked upon from multiple points, but one cannot overlook the idea that this is about rape.

The Toadies are amazing. It is unfortunate that everyone seems to have neglected the achievement of Hell Below/ Stars Above, but that's a different story for another time. The Burden Brothers are a great band as well. I have seen them twice and with each concert they only seem to grow better. I am awaiting the sequel to Buried in your Black Heart and I look forward to a long career for them.

This song is called Tyler because Tyler, Texas was where the lead singer had spent time as a child and I believe he may still spend some time there but I don't know. He now belongs to the band Burden Brothers, who he says will be together for the long run. Anyway Tyler is a great song, what I love is that the guitar and drums at the beginning sound so perfect together, and this song is a musical masterpiece in my opinion.

I read somewhere that this song was based on a stalking case in Tyler, Texas. I have never been able to find any confirmation of that, but it makes plenty of sense. I just love that the song is so beautiful and yet contains such disturbing images.

I agree that it is extremely likely for this song to be based on the stalking case in Tyler, Texas, as the Toadies come from Texas themselves. It's an awesome song, though it is a little disturbing. I think what's happening is he's stalking a girl then ends up raping her in the end. Very disturbing, but you gotta love the Toadies...

I wish I could find the interview where Vaden Lewis explains these lyrics... but alas.

From what I recall, Vaden had gone back to his hometown of Tyler, Texas and the big thing his family was talking about was that some weirdo had been seen around town peeping into windows. So he wrote the song from that weirdo's perspective, with the addition of a "what would happen if he actually went inside?" kind of scenario tagged on.

I'm sure you can find the article around the internet somewhere, i lack the energy to look for it at the moment.

I hope this clears up all the pointless debate about whether or not it's about a stalking/rape. It most definitely IS, but not a specific real-life instance of it, as some have attested.

until i read these comments - i NEVER noticed any resemblance b/w where is my mind & tyler. now i listen to them & all i hear is maybe the toadies guitar riffs are similar & faster.
