Skylines And Turnstiles (Demo) Lyrics

You're not in this alone
Let me break this awkward silence
Let me go!
Go on record
Be the first to say I'm sorry
Hear me out
And if you take me down
Would you lay me out?
And if the world needs something better
Let's give them one more reason now

We walk in single file
We write our wills and punch our time
Ride escalators colder than a cell

This broken city sky
Like butane on my skin
Stolen from my eyes
Hello angel, tell me
Where are you?
Tell me, where we go from here
This broken city sky
Like butane on my skin
Stolen from my eyes
Hello angel, tell me
Where are you?
Tell me where we go from here
Tell me we go from...
And in this moment we can't close the lids
On burning eyes
Our memories blanket us with friends we know
Like fallout vapor
Steel corpses stretch out towards an ending sun
Scorched and black
It reaches in and tears your flesh apart
As ice cold hands rip into your heart

That's if you've still got one that's left
Inside that cave you call a chest
And after seeing what we saw
Can we still reclaim our innocence?
And if the world needs something better
Let's give them one more reason now

This broken city sky
Like butane on my skin
And stolen from my eyes
Hello angel, tell me
Where are you?
Tell me, where we go from here
This broken city sky
Like butane on my skin
Stolen from my eyes
Hello angel, tell me
Where are you?
Tell me where we go from here
Tell me where we go from here...

Was this demo was recorded before Mikey joined the band?
Genius Answer

This demo was released as part of a compilation of released and unreleased tracks, so the date of its recording was unconfirmed. Mikey was part of the band during the recording of Bullets and there’s an evident bass in this recording, so I’m going to say no, Mikey was a part of My Chem during this recording.

Was this song part of the 'Attic Demos'?
Genius Answer

As confirmed in a statement released by the band prior to the release of May Death Never Stop You, “Skylines and Turnstiles” was included in My Chemical Romance’s early EP, Dreams of Stabbing and/or Being Stabbed, also known as the Attic Demos. At the time of the EP’s release, the song title was simply “Turnstiles”.

Other tracks on the EP were “Stabbing” (demo of “Vampires Will Never Hurt You”), “Bring More Knives” (released on May Death Never Stop You as “Knives/Sorrows (Demo)” which would later become “Our Lady of Sorrows”, “Cubicles”, and “Wish You Away” (demo of “Drowning Lessons”).

does ray do backing vocals at the beginning?
Genius Answer

No, I believe all vocals for this track were Gerard. (But I can’t be 100% sure!)

Although this track was officially released as part of was out as part of May Death Never Stop You, it was also part of the 2002 Attic Demos, (aka. “Dreams of Stabbing and/or Being Stabbed”). While Frank Iero joined in 2002 during the time of the demos, I’m not sure if he’s officially on this one. However, if there was going to be another person singing the backing vocals in the beginning, I’d say it sounds more like Frank than Ray.

However, I really think the backing vocals are just Gerard on another recording! The track is definitely a demo, but I don’t think everything was recorded live or in one take (especially at 1:06, that seems like two different vocals takes). There are also two guitars, which means Ray did two recordings, or Frank was already part of the band!

Overall, I’d say it’s a mystery! But the most likely answer is that it’s not Ray, it’s Gerard.
