Little Dogs March Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Hope you had your fun
All those days are over now
The sunset's at the skyline
Say goodnight and kindly take your bow

[Chorus]
March on, little doggy
March on, little dog

[Verse 2]
Hope you got your fill
All those days are over now

The river's all dammed up
So fill your cup and kindly take your bow

[Chorus]
And march on, little doggy
March on, little dog
March on, little doggy
March on, little dog

Genius Annotation

Mac Demarco’s “Little Dogs March” is an ode to growing up. Those days of hard partying, drinking any motherfucker under the table after the show, and his “Rock n Roll” lifestyle are behind him. Although he seems to have come to terms with it he still may hold a sadness about it as is evident with his tone in lines like “Hope you got your fill / All those days are over now”

This is all stressed in a line from his Billboard interview posted on April 19th, 2019 in which he states, “I’m older, and I’m not old, but I’m not as interested in just getting blackout drunk onstage. I want things to sound nice.”
