“Dark Ballet” begins with the somber tone in which “God Control” ended. Now wearing the Madame X eyepatch, Madonna sings seated on the staircase, in a dungeon-like scenery. Next to her, the loyal Rickey Pageot, all dressed in black and wearing a gas mask, plays the piano. On the other end of the stage, other three musicians, dressed as nuns, play the cello, the viola and the violin.
Slowly, five dancers in white dresses and flowery gas masks enter the stage. They dance with Madonna in bizarre and ritual resembling movements, reminiscing of the MET Gala 2018 performance, when the song was still called “Beautiful Game”.
By the end of the third verse, Madonna blows fire upon the dancers who haunt her, exorcizing them off the stage. Then, two policemen come in and arrest her, throwing her in a hole in a wall where she will stay imprisoned during the first half of “Human Nature”. While being carried away, Madonna calls them traitors and curses them in French.
