Extreme Occident (Live at the Coliseu dos Recreios, Lisbon, Portugal, 1/12-23/2020) Lyrics
Let me get on with my journey
[Verse 1]
I went to the far right
Then I went to the far left
I tried to recover my center of gravity
[Chorus]
I guess I'm lost
I had to pay the cost
The thing that hurt me most
Was that I wasn't lost
[Verse 2]
I came from the Midwest
Then I went to the Far East
I tried to discover my own identity
[Chorus]
I guess I’m lost
I paid a handsome cost
The thing that hurt the most
Was that I wasn't lost
I wasn't lost
No, I wasn't lost
It was a different feeling
A mix of lucidity and craziness
But I wasn't lost, you believe me
I was right, and I've got the right
To choose my own life like a full circle
Life is a circle, life is a circle
Life is a circle, life is a circle
Life is a circle, life is a circle
Life is a circle, life is a circle
Aquilo que mais magoa
É que eu não estava perdida
[Chorus]
(I guess I'm lost, guess I'm lost) I guess I'm lost (I'm lost, I'm lost)
I had to pay the cost
The thing that hurt me most (Me most, me most)
Was that I wasn't lost
I wasn't lost
About
“Extreme Occident” takes place after another long public interaction moment, in which Madonna drinks beer and chats with someone from the audience. She returns to the stage to continue Madame X’s journey, and the curtains roll up, revealing a simple setup of four blocks of staircases, two of them with musicians sat on, in a dark blue lighting.
Madonna sings the first half of the song seemingly lost, as the lyrics state. She is guided by the lighting, following a narrow light path on the floor that slowly unfolds in front of her as she sings. She eventually sits in one of the stair blocks, which then start to spin around, slightly resembling the performance of “Lo Que Siente La Mujer” in Drowned World Tour 2001.
After the chaotic bridge Madonna comes down to stage floor once more to sing the final chorus. She then retreats to the darkness, walking backwards through a narrow space between two pieces of staircases, which closes after she passes.
The doorway then opens again, and the first dancer for “Breathwork” is revealed.
