I Want You Lyrics

[Intro]
I, yi yi yi
I, yi yi yi
I, yi yi yi

[Chorus]
I want you the right way
I want you, but I want you to want me too
Want you to want me baby
Just like I want you
Da-da, da-da, da da-da

[Verse 1]
I'll give you all the love I want in return
But half a love is all I feel, sweet darling
It's too bad, it's just too sad
You don't want me anymore
But I'm going to change your mind
Some way, somehow

[Chorus]
I want you the right way
I want you, but I want you to want me too
Want you to want me baby
Just like I want you
Da-da, da-da, da da-da
[Verse 2]
One way love is just a fantasy
To share is precious, pure and fair
Don't play with something you should cherish for life
Oh baby, don't you want to care
Isn't it lonely out there

[Chorus]
I want you the right way
I want you, but I want you to want me too
Want you to want me baby
Just like I want you

I want you the right way
I want you, but I want you to want me too
Want me baby, just like I want you
Da-da, da-da, da da-da

[Outro]
I want you, the right way
Want me baby
Don't play with something you should cherish for life

About

Genius Annotation

“I Want You” is the first track from Madonna’s ballad compilation album Something To Remember.

The song is a cover of Marvin Gaye’s “I Want You” that Madonna recorded for the 1995 Inner City Blues: The Music Of Marvin Gaye tribute album release, and was later included on Something To Remember.

Originally set as the lead single of the ballad compilation, accompained by a music video, unfortunately legality problems between the Motown label and Warner Brothers prevented this from happening, and “You’ll See” was released instead.

Genius Answer

3D on using Madonna as vocalist [The Face – November 1995]:

She sang it really well, she had it sorted out, you could tell she knew the song, she’d really worked fucking hard on it. Fucking good.

3D on the recording sessions with Madonna [ChannelV TV – June 1998]:

It was quite freaky for me because I’m just a Bristol boy. She was singing in my ear as we were playing the music down, giving me her version of it. I wasn’t taking any notice at all really. I was just thinking about how mad it is. She is such an icon it takes you a while to adjust. When she was in the vocal room, it was amazing. We did a few takes just to cover it, but she sung it so well we could have done it in one take. It was that beautiful.

3D looking back on I Want You for Collected [Collected PR – January 2006]:

Sexy nostalgia from 97. Madonna getting down with us in a pre-Angelo D'Angelo style for the Marvin tribute album.
