Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics
Load up on guns and bring your friends
It's fun to lose and to pretend
She's over-bored and self-assured
Oh no, I know a dirty word
[Pre-Chorus]
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
[Chorus]
With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
[Verse 2]
I'm worse at what I do best
And for this gift, I feel blessed
Our little group has always been
And always will until the end
[Pre-Chorus]
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hеllo, how low
With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Hеre we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an albino
A mosquito, my libido
[Verse 3]
And I forget just why I taste
Oh yeah, I guess it makes me smile
I found it hard, it's hard to find
Oh well, whatever, nevermind
[Pre-Chorus]
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
[Chorus]
With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
[Outro]
A denial, a denial
A denial, a denial
A denial, a denial
A denial, a denial
About
Appearing on the soundtrack for 2021’s Black Widow, Malia J would emerge from a brief hiatus with her cover of Nirvana’s classic track “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” More lulling and eery than its predecessor, the song would play over the opening montage of the Marvel film, during which it’s revealed what occurred to numerous girls while undergoing training to become “widows.”
In an Instagram statement, Malia would express her love of the Nirvana original:
I remember seeing Nirvana posters when I was a little girl. When I got older I listened to their music and became a fan.
The thing that inspires me most about [Nirvana frontman] Kurt Cobain is that he seemed to have NO FEAR of creating and sharing his music. He was so unfiltered and passionate. I don’t think Kurt Cobain realized the impact he would have on so many generations. It’s an honor to cover [his song].
Following Black Widow’s release just a week later, the cover would skyrocket on the iTunes charts, reaching #1 on the US iTunes Alternative Sales Chart and top 5 in the overall genre.
