Soft to Be Strong Lyrics
I know it's hard to be soft
I know it hurts to be kind
I know that when love is lost
It's only fear in disguise
[Chorus]
And I guess I've known it all along
The truth is you have to be soft to be strong
Finally, I feel the fear is gone
I found out love has to be soft to be strong
Soft to be strong, soft
[Verse 2]
I believe the world is beautiful
Only the weak ones are cruel
I choose to love you without fear
No shame in being sincere
[Chorus]
And I guess I've known it all along
The truth is you have to be soft to be strong
Finally, I feel the fear is gone
I found out love has to be soft to be strong
Soft to be strong
And I made myself believe
Other people wanted to hurt me
I took my bitterness and made it sweet
I took a broken heart and made it beat
Somebody hurt me long ago
And though to heal a heart is slow
It's just a consequence of pain
There is no use in laying blame
[Chorus]
And I guess I've known it all along
The truth is you have to be soft to be strong
Finally I feel the fear is gone
I found out love has to be soft to be strong
Soft to be strong
[Outro]
Soft to be strong
Soft to be strong
Soft
About
“Soft to be Strong” is a track by Welsh singer-songwriter MARINA. Produced by Sam de Jong, it appears as the last track on the second disc of her double album Love + Fear, released April 26, 2019.
In the Editors' Notes on Apple Music, MARINA is quoted explaining the meaning behind the song:
This talks about fear in love, and how that fear can finally dissipate. The sentiment in the song is that when it comes to relationships, and also life, there’s a lot of strength in being soft. Growing up, I was given the impression that it was the opposite—that to be loved in a relationship you have to be tough. Being soft is actually a lot stronger. Putting the other person before yourself is a really nice sign of strength in a relationship.
