R2D2 We Wish You a Merry Christmas Lyrics

[Intro: R2-D2 and C-3PO]
R2, where are you?
Oh, there you are
Well, if you come over here, you'll find a wonderful surprise
You'll have to plug into the central computer to hear what it is
That's right
No, it's not a phase detector!
It's your Christmas present!

[Chorus]
R2-D2, we wish you a merry Christmas
R2-D2, we love you, it's true
R2-D2, we wish you a merry Christmas (Merry Christmas)
We hope our little message gets to you

[Verse 1]
We look up at the winter star, we know that's where you are
Our chimney's big and round, so you can come right down
And if our wish comes true, we'll spend Christmas Eve with you
Our hearts will sing with glee as we decorate the Christmas tree

[Chorus]
R2-D2, we wish you a merry Christmas
R2-D2, we love you, it's true
R2-D2, we wish you a merry Christmas (Merry Christmas)
We hope our little message gets to you
[Verse 2]
And if the snow becomes too deep, just give a little beep
We'll go in by the fire and warm your little wires
Spreading Christmas cheer will be easy with you here
We'll dance and sing and play from Christmas Eve 'til Christmas day

[Skit: R2-D2 and C-3PO]
R2, the quaver converter isn't complete yet!
It isn't finished!
Lock in your circuits again, quick

[Chorus]
R2-D2, we wish you a merry Christmas
R2-D2, we love you, it's true
R2-D2, we wish you a merry Christmas (Merry Christmas)
We hope our little message gets to you

R2-D2, we wish you a merry Christmas
R2-D2, we love you, it's true
R2-D2, we wish you a merry Christmas (Merry Christmas)
We hope our little message, we hope our little message
We hope our little message gets to you

[Outro]
Merry Christmas, R2
R2, we love you
R2, merry Christmas

About

Genius Annotation

When Meco was recording Christmas In The Stars, he’d tried singing the lyrics himself and wasn’t satisfied with the results. He also had a few others come in to sing it, but wasn’t happy with those takes either. Producer Tony Bongiovi suggested his younger cousin Jon give it a shot, so Meco asked him and within a few notes knew this was the voice he was looking for. Jon was only 17 at the time, and would later go on to sell millions of records, both with his band Bon Jovi and as a solo artist.

The song can be found on the album, or as the B-side to the single “What Can You Get a Wookiee for Christmas”.

What did Meco say about "R2D2 We Wish You a Merry Christmas"?
Genius Answer

Meco explained how Jon Bon Jovi was selected as the vocalist on this track:

My co-producer was Tony Bongiovi. Jon Bon Jovi was his little cousin and by little I mean we were all in our 30s and early 40s but Jon at that time was 17 years old… I was stuck on this one song. I had three different people come in to sing it and I didn’t like the way any of them sounded. Tony says to me, ‘Why don’t you try little Jon’. Well, all right, let’s try him. And after just the first few notes out of his mouth I said, ‘Yes! This is him. This is the one! This is the one who should sing it’. He had this cute little voice – he was still a kid, and his voice really hadn’t even come down in pitch yet. It was still a little high but he had a great feeling for it. And of course, we all know what this little kid went on to do, he became one of the biggest rock and roll stars of all time.

…and from the man himself:

This guy Meco would hire session guys and they’d orchestrate stuff with disco beats. He did Star Wars rip-off stuff in the wake of all of George Lucas’ success. And he needed a kid. Meco tried to sing it himself, and he didn’t sound like a young boy. So he said, ‘Can you really sing?’ I said, ‘Yeah,’ and he said, ‘Do it.’ So they wrote me down like a session musician… It took 20 minutes, there was nothing to it.
