Reckoning Day Lyrics

[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]
I like the way that I make you itch
And all the reasons I give you to bitch
And how I make you wanna scream in pain
And feel your life is just a losing game
Ooh, I like the way that you let me in
The way you look when the walls cave in
I like the way that your stomach knots
And how you cry for it all to stop
Oh, I like the way that you fool yourself
Oh, and make believe there's nobody else
Oh, I like the way that you stand in line
And beg salvation from the empty skies, empty skies

[Guitar Solo: Marty Friedman]

[Chorus]
Don't want no revenge
Ain't no payback time
It ain't called getting even
Here comes the reckoning day, day, day, day

[Guitar Solo: Marty Friedman]
[Verse 2]
Oh, I like the things that you try to fake
And your face when I see you break
And that you say you will pray for me
You realize you are prey for me
Ooh, I like the way you stay on attack
No matter what, I keep coming back
And how you try to hold me down
But you end up driven to the ground, to the ground

[Guitar Solo: Marty Friedman]

[Chorus]
Don't want no revenge
Ain't no payback time
It ain't called getting even
Here comes the reckoning

[Instrumental Break]
[Guitar Solo: Dave Mustaine]

[Chorus]
Don't want no revenge (Don't want no revenge)
Ain't no payback time (Ain't no payback time)
It ain't called getting even (It ain't called getting even)
Here comes the reckoning
Here comes the reckoning day, day, day
[Post-Chorus]
Here comes the reckoning day
Here comes the reckoning day
Here comes the reckoning day (Ooh)
Here comes the reckoning day (Hmm)
Here comes the reckoning
Here comes the reckoning day
Ooh, here it comes
It's coming to getcha

About

Genius Annotation

This song is about retribution, about being paid back for the evil deeds that you have done in your life. A day of reckoning is a day of settlement and resolution. It’s that day when you’re going to have to live up to what you have done, to pay back the debt that you owe. You can try to put it off or to avoid it, but the more you try, the more it haunts you.

Mustaine has said that the idea of the title came from the 1993 movie Tombstone starring Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer. In the movie, Kilmer’s character says the line; “Make no mistake, it’s not revenge he’s after. It’s a reckoning.”
