Mother (English) Lyrics

[Refrain]
I am your mother (I am your mother)
You listen to me (you listen to me)
Stop mansplaining, no one will listen to you
Tell me who gave you permission to speak? (Ah-ah, to speak)
I am your mother (I am your mother)
You listen to me (Shh)
[Verse 1]
He-he-lord, big boy, pull up your big toy
Talkin' that blah, blah, blah, make that big noise
Because you're so frustrated, emasculated
'Cause your shit got called out by that little lady (My baby)
[pre Chorus]
But your opinion is so strong
Even if you're wrong (if you're wrong)
Bet that feels like power to you (that feels like power to you)
Must have forgotten who you're talking to
[Refrain]
I am your mothеr (I am your mother)
You listen to me (you listеn to me)
Stop the mansplaining, nobody's listening to you (Shh)
Tell me who gave you permission to speak? (Ah-ah, to speak)
I am your mother (I am your mother)
You listen to me (you listen to me)
[post Chorus]
You're just a, boom-boom-boom, boom-boom-boom
You're just one (You're just one) (Hey)
[Verse 2]
You all need a lesson from my husband
Learn to please like he can (he can)
Don't try to control me and own me
Like an old man on C-SPAN
Bet you wish you could marry me (Mwah)
Stay mad, this is priceless
You with your god complex
But you can't even put your life on the chain, bitch (Bitch)
[pre Chorus]
But your opinion is so strong
Even if you're wrong (Oh)
Bet that feels like power to you (that feels like power to you)
Must have forgotten who you're talking to
[Refrain]
I am your mother (I am your mother)
You listen to me (you listen to me)
Stop the mansplaining (Ayy), nobody's listening to you (Shh)
Tell me who gave you permission to speak? (Ah-ah, to speak)
I am your mother (I am your mother)
You listen to me
[post Chorus]
You're just one (You're just one) (Hey)
You're just one, bum-bum-bum (Hey)
Ladies shake your (Hey)
Shake your boom, boom-boom-boom
[outro]
(you are only one)

Genius Annotation

The release of “Mother” also follows the announcement of Trainor’s first book – themed around motherhood – named “Dear Future Mama.“In a press release promoting the song, Trainor revealed that it came about as a result of the treatment she keeps getting in the entertainment industry despite having been in the industry for over a decade. “This song is my response to being in the industry for almost a decade now and still finding myself in situations where I am talked down to or made to feel like my opinion isn’t valid,” Trainor said in a statement. “It’s for anyone who is in a situation where they feel like they are being mansplained to and want to take their power back.”
