This Is It Lyrics

[Intro: Michael Jackson]
Ready?
One, two, three, four

[Verse 1: Michael Jackson]
This is it, here I stand
I'm the light of the world, I feel grand

Got this love, I can feel
And I know, yes, for sure, it is real

[Pre-Chorus: Michael Jackson & Michael Jackson & The Jacksons]
And it feels as though I've seen your face a thousand times
And you said you really know me, too, yourself
And I know that you have got addicted with your eyes
But you say you gonna live it for yourself, oh!

[Chorus: Michael Jackson & Michael Jackson & The Jacksons]
I never heard a single word about you
Fallin' in love wasn't my plan (My plan)
I never thought that I would be your lover
Come on, baby, just understand

[Verse 2: Michael Jackson & Michael Jackson & The Jacksons]
This is it, I can say
I'm the light of the world, runaway

We can feel this is real
Every time I'm in love, that, I feel
[Pre-Chorus: Michael Jackson & Michael Jackson & The Jacksons]
And I feel as though I've known you since a thousand years
And you tell me that you've seen my face before
And you said to me you don't want me hanging 'round
Many times, want to do it here before, oh, yeah

[Chorus: Michael Jackson & Michael Jackson & The Jacksons]
I never heard a single word about you
Fallin' in love wasn't my plan (My plan)
I never thought that I would be your lover
Come on, baby, just understand

[Verse 3: Michael Jackson & The Jacksons]
This is it (This is it), I can feel (I can feel)
I'm the light of the world, this is real
Feel my song, we can say
And I tell you I feel that way

[Pre-Chorus: Michael Jackson]
And I feel as though I've known you for a thousand years
And you said you want some of this yourself
And you said you want to go with me all the while
And I know that it's really true myself, oh, yeah

[Chorus: Michael Jackson & Michael Jackson & The Jacksons]
I never heard a single word about you
Fallin' in love wasn't my plan (My plan)
I never thought that I would be your lover
Come on, please, dear, understand (Understand)
Ah-ayy
I never heard a single word about you
Falling in love wasn't my plan (My plan)
I never thought that I would be your lover
Come on, please dear, understand (Understand)

Never heard a single word about you
Falling in love wasn't my plan

About

Genius Annotation

“This Is It” is the titular song of the This Is It album and also the last song on it. In it he describes a blossoming relationship with a woman that he had previously spent a lot of his time with but had never before seen as a person to fall in love with. The song can also be interpreted as a retrospect on his legendary career as “the King of Pop” and as a final message to the millions of fans he had made over the decades.

Originally co-written and recorded in 1983 with Paul Anka to serve as a duet for the two singers (not unlike Jackson’s 1981 collaboration with Paul McCartney for “The Girl Is Mine”) and then to be included on Anka’s album Walk A Fine Line under the name “I Never Heard,” Jackson took the master tapes of the song after their collaboration plans fell through and they remained relatively untouched in his vault until the announcement of the This Is It tour, at which this song was reportedly planned to be played^1. After Jackson’s death and without Anka’s express permission, Jackson’s family had the vocals remixed to feature only Jackson’s voice as well as backing vocals from his siblings and an orchestral accompaniment^2.

Alongside “Best of Joy,” “Breathe,” and “River Ripple,” “This Is It” was one of the last known songs Michael Jackson had been working on prior to his death on June 25, 2009.
