There’s a Place in Hell for Me and My Friends Lyrics
There is a place
Reserved
For me and my friends
And when we go
We all will go
So you see
I'm never alone
There is a place
With a bit more time
And a few more
Gentler words
And looking back
We do forgive
(we had no choice
We always did)
All that we hope
Is that when we go
Our skin
And our blood
And our bones
Don't get in your way
Making you ill
The way they did
When we lived
There is a place
A place in hell
Reserved
For me and my friends
And if ever I
Wanted to cry
Then I will
Because I can
Reserved
For me and my friends
And when we go
We all will go
So you see
I'm never alone
There is a place
With a bit more time
And a few more
Gentler words
And looking back
We do forgive
(we had no choice
We always did)
All that we hope
Is that when we go
Our skin
And our blood
And our bones
Don't get in your way
Making you ill
The way they did
When we lived
There is a place
A place in hell
Reserved
For me and my friends
And if ever I
Wanted to cry
Then I will
Because I can

Genius Annotation
The original recording is subdued and solemn, with the vocal backed only by a piano and bowed bass, plus a short coda of funeral-march drums.
For the Kill Uncle tour, Morrissey instructed his musical director Boz Boorer and band to give the song a rockabilly arrangement. This changed the song’s mood from mournful to defiant.
Some listeners & reviewers thought the lyrics alluded to AIDS. Morrissey said in a radio interview he hadn’t written specifically about AIDS but he could see why people may think so.
It’s worth noting that Tim Broad, Morrisseys' long-time friend & video director, died of AIDS-related illness in February 1993.
