Naughty Boy exclusively was interviewed, where he spoke how the song came to be:

I had the tune just sitting there for about a year, I knew I wanted to do something with it for my new album but I just wasn’t sure exactly what at the time. I’m a big fan of “Cake By The Ocean” [DNCE’s song] and when the guys were in town recently I met Joe, he came in the studio and we just vibed on the tune.
