This is the long awaited collab between Nicki Minaj and Drake, the two hadn’t collaborated since “Seeing Green”. The beginning of this track uses a voice mail, similarly used in early Drake projects. It is unclear if they have any relation. The songs title “Needle” is due to the catchy chorus following the them of the girl being special or “a needle in a haystack.” We see this in the lyrics drake repeats in the chorus “You’re like a needle, life’s a haystack”

So Drake told his fans at his tour that I was going to be on his album, and actually the song he was talking about was “Needle”. But he ended up feeling like sonically it didn’t match FOR ALL THE DOGS and I from day one felt like it matched Pink Friday 2. So long ago, I remember joking, “You know what, you never know, maybe something happens and it’ll get to be on my album”, and this was almost a year ago. I first heard that song when I was in Trinidad in February. Everybody loved it and I wanted it for my album, so it was just God’s timing. He asked me if I wanted it for my album and I was like “Absolutely”. But it worked for the best. “Needle” is just the perfect Drake and Nicki song.
