Think of a Number Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Let's think of a number
And I'll try to guess your name
Let's drink to the future
I hope it comes round again
Right now, people are dancing
While the world slips away
There's no time for love and romancing
And there's nothing more to say, hey hey (ahh)
There's nothing more to say (doop ahh)

[Verse 2]
Last night, I was talking to the shadows on the wall
Outside, under the moonlight I never felt so small
Because you, you were my hero and you left and took your bow
So lets play into tomorrow, gotta get out of the now, how, how

[Chorus]
Forgive my indecision, I don't know what I should do
I need time to think, because it's such a cruel world
The girl on the television, she's got her magic eye on you
She sell you a dream, she's trying to fool the world
So let it all fall, all fall down

[Instrumental]
[Bridge]
The truth won't hurt nobody
Why do we still play pretend ?
Don't ever tell me that you love me
Cos this might be the end

[Instrumental]

[Chorus]
Forgive my indecision, I don't know what I should do
I need time to think, because it's such a cruel world
The girl on the television, she's got her magic eye on you
She sell you a dream, she's trying to fool the world
So let it all fall, all fall down

[Outro]
Let's think of a number
And I'll try to guess your name
Let's drink to the future
I hope it comes round again
I hope it comes round again
I hope it comes round again
I hope it comes round again
I hope it comes round again

What did Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds say about "Think of a Number"?
Genius Answer

It’s quite a personal song and it’s quite bleak, which is why I thought, ‘Can it open the album?’ And really, in hindsight, it should have done. I love the words, and it’s quite epic. There’s three solo breaks—a piano solo, a guitar solo, another instrumental break. There’s a couple of drop-downs. That’s me playing bass, funnily enough. I was doing it in here with [drummer] Chris Sharrock, saying, ‘Look, it’ll be like a bit like XTC or Bowie or that kind of New Wave thing.’ He came up with the drum beat, I had the bassline and it went from there.
