Following the new years release of her politically charged single “Song 31,” Noname delivers yet another single on her 30’s series. On the track, she uses self-reflection, clever wordplay and pop culture references to paint a vivid picture of the current American culture over smooth jazzy production by Phoelix. She announced the songs release through a tweet:
Prior to the release, she revealed through a now-deleted tweet that she would be taking a hiatus. However, she later announced that she would release a new song on the series, “Song 33,” urging fans to share this song so she could drop the new song.

Speaking during a Haymarket Books panel, called “This is An Uprising,” held on June 15th, 2020, Noname stated:
I don’t think any of my art prior to maybe my last song that I released was really radical… because I wasn’t radicalized until after I had released my first two projects.
It’s worth remembering that Noname runs a bookclub that frequently offers readings of works by revolutionary Black artists.
