Black Woman Lyrics

[Intro]
I said

[Verse 1]
Look at these heels
The way they switch like a light switch
Know I keep it lit, yeah, yeah
Look at these brown skin
You make your neighbour
On the lay outside again

[Pre-Chorus]
The way I walk, the way I talk
I got the sauce, I got the sauce
And you know I'm with the flavour
I was bred in New Orleans
Don't need to roll it
There's time in my hair
I'm comin' out the swamp
So, alligators, beware

[Chorus]
Black woman (Uh)
Black woman (Yeah)
A black woman (Uh)
A black woman (Oh, ooh-oh)
[Verse 2]
Ain't never afraid of nothin'
Took all of my flaws and love it
The darker the berry, the sweeter the juice
I'm proud to be dark and lovely
And maybe my aesthetic it's biased with no credit
But I'ma show you history 'til you get it

[Pre-Chorus]
Little girl, little girl
In your hands you hold the world
You're beautiful
Your blessing is growing up to be a

[Chorus]
Black woman (Uh)
Black woman (Yeah)
A black woman (Uh)
A black woman (Oh, ooh-oh)

[Saxophone Solo]

[Verse 3]
Ain't never afraid of nothin'
Took all of my flaws and love it
The darker the berry, the sweeter the juice
I'm proud to be dark and lovely
And maybe my aesthetic it's biased with no credit
But I'ma show you history 'til you get it
[Chorus]
Black woman (Uh)
Black woman (Yeah)
A black woman (Uh)
A black woman (Oh, ooh-oh)
Black woman (Uh)
Black woman (Yeah)
A black woman (Uh)
A black woman (Oh, ooh-oh)

Bye, baby

Genius Annotation

Written by Normani, hitmaker Victoria Monét, and R&B producer Danja, “Black Woman” was mentioned by Normani in an interview with Rolling Stones back in September of 2020. She teased a line of the track when asked what song or lyric she wrote she was particularly proud of.

It would have to be the line: “You’re beautiful, your blessing is growing up to be a black woman.” It will possibly be on my next project. That’s just a line that I’m really proud of, and Victoria Monet, she went in on this song. It really just started with a conversation [between us].
