Human Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Yesterday I talked to God, we had a conversation
Told him that I’m sorry I lost communication
But I just, I just needed some holiness
I said that the things that I’ve been trying end up in frustration
Life ain’t what it seems in any situation
Then he said, he said the strangest thing

[Chorus]
He said, "How does it feel to be human
Does some of the best plans you make get ruined?
Do people curse you when flowers ain’t blooming?
How does it feel?"
He said, "How does it feel to be human?
If I could for one day I just might do it
Dance 'til the sun comes up to my music
How does it feel?
How’s it feel?"

[Verse 2]
Yesterday I talked to God, we had a conversation
I asked him why this life is a crazy combination
Of numbers, numbers, numbers we can’t read
Yeah for sure I got some friends but we got complications
Most of us are happy with some medication
But I could, I could really use some wings
"How does it feel to be human?
If I could for one day I just might do it
Dance 'til the sun comes up to my music
How does it feel?
How’s it feel?"
(Just one day)
How does it feel to be human
"How does it feel to be human?
If I could for one day I just might do it
Dance 'til the sun comes up to my music
How does it feel?
How’s it feel?"

About

Genius Annotation

“Human” is centered around the concept of someone who’s lost touch with God turning to Him only during a bad experience, with God in return trying to sympathize with their pain.

In response to the person, God asks how it feels to be “Human,” almost as if He doesn’t genuinely know due to Jesus being the Son and human embodiment of God.

With all of the band members being Christians, Tedder said on Twitter that he thought the song would be risky, even sacrilegious. However, with Kutzle’s father being a pastor, he looked into Scripture, and gave the song the all go.

The album was actually entitled “Human” at one point, which would have been even more convenient since the album was created to encompass the human experience.
