Falling Slowly Lyrics

[GUY]
I don't know you
But I want you
All the more for that

[GUY & GIRL]
And words fall through me
And always fool me
And I can't react

[GUY]
And games that never amount
To more than they're meant
Will play themselves out

[GUY & GIRL]
Take this sinking boat
And point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice
You have a choice
You've made it now

Falling slowly
Eyes that know me
And I can't go back
Moods that take me
And erase me
And I'm painted black
[GUY]
Well, you have suffered enough
And warred with yourself
It's time that you've won

[GUY & GIRL]
Take this sinking boat
And point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice
You have a choice
You've made it now
Falling slowly
Sing your melody
I'll sing it loud

[GUY]
Oh, ooh, oh
Take it all
Oh, I played the cards too late
Now it's gone

(spoken)
Two, three, four

Genius Annotation

This song is a brief overview of their relationship; how it began and how it all fell apart. At the start of the song, it seems to be love at first sight. They see each other for the first time and are enamored with each other. At first, they are nervous and almost blunder the relationship before it starts. But, they work it out and “save” their relationship. As time goes on, their relationship grows and they change. They are no longer the love sick, optimistic people they were when they first met. He is jaded and darker, and she is contemplating leaving him. He wants her to leave him so he doesn’t hurt her and drag her down anymore, so she an be happy. But they do both still love each other. This song is them fighting for their relationship, in little ways like moving past a blundered first meeting, and in big ways, in deciding if staying together is worth all the pain caused by the major changes in their personalities.
