Dark Divide Lyrics

Burning bridges we're halfway across
There's no light at the end
There's no safety in turning back
Our heels are dug in
Tensions are deep within

We've been trading blows now everyone is bloody
There are no more innocents
We've been trading blows now everyone is bloody
Throw us all in the penitentiary
War, war for the sake of war
Common ground is the most stable
War, war for the sake of war
Convinced peace is not obtainable
If we all, if we all fight on the fringe
We will never, we will never make a connection

Disaster begins when we're spread thin

If this was a tsunami, the surge would have been 40 feet tall
If there had been a fire, the flames would have consumed it all
We no longer care about the cost
Now we weep for what we lost

Taking in the air from the earth
Spitting out nothing of worth
Take a walk with your enemy and you'll see
You're on the same path
How can we coexist
When no one will admit
That compromise means both sides give a little bit?
Going against the grain shouldn't cause others pain

Burning bridges we're halfway across
There's no light at the end
There's no safety in turning back
Our heels are dug in (tensions are deep within)
How will I carry your coffin
If I'm lying in the one beside yours?

Save your fury for the guilty ones
Discover clarity, embrace your adversary
Save your fury for the guilty ones
Discover clarity, embrace your adversary

What did August Burns Red say about "Dark Divide"?
Genius Answer

JB Brubaker:

Lyrically, this song speaks about the division of people. It’s not just our country-it’s all over the world. People have a lot of opinions, and they don’t want to hear the other side. It’s hard to find common ground, politically speaking. The song talks about how that has destroyed progress and our ability to connect with each other. Musically, this song uses a lot of guitar harmonics, which we haven’t really done a whole lot of, and I think it gives the song an interesting flavour!
