The Innocent Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I have been a dancer, but without her feet
I've been a lion, but without its teeth

In the moonlight I will lie awake
Drinking lava from the lake

[Pre-Chorus]
You give (You give) your all (Your all) and in (And in) return (Return)
You get (You get) a spark (A spark) and you watch (You watch) it burn (It burn) for love

[Chorus]
The innocent life, the innocent touch is never enough
For the ones who love, the ones who love
The ones who love

[Verse 2]
Danger in the boy that would lose control
When everyone thought he had a heart of gold

I remember how we used to play
He'd let me win, if I let him stay

[Pre-Chorus]
He left without a single trace
I don't know why he said goodbye to love
(You would never let me into your heart)
(You would never let me into your heart)
(You would never let me into your heart)
(You would never let me into your heart)
[Chorus]
The innocent life, the innocent touch is never enough
For the ones who love, the ones who love
The ones who love
The innocent life, the innocent touch is never enough
For the ones who love, the ones who love
The ones who love

[Bridge]
I lay you down in the cold of the water
Watching you drown for the sake of the torture
Now you are gone, I feel that I'm closer
(You would never let me into your heart)

[Pre-Chorus]
You would never let me into your heart
You would never let me into your heart
You would never let me into your heart
You would never let me into your heart
You would never let me into your heart
You would never let me into your heart
You would never let me into your heart
You would never let me into your heart

[Chorus]
The innocent life, the innocent touch is never enough
For the ones who love, the ones who love

The ones who love
The innocent life, the innocent touch is never enough
For the ones who love, the ones who love
The ones who love

About

Genius Annotation

“The Innocent”, starting with an upbeat piano rift, is arguably the most different track on the album.

The song itself is about sexualizing innocent things, like our bodies. The greek god it was inspired by is Eros, (otherwise known as Cupid), the God of carnal love.

On her Spotify Storyline for the song, AURORA said:

Perfection scares me. Our obsession with it scares me even more. That is why I relate to the greek gods. Because they are flawed. And I love the idea of people worshipping something flawed. We are not perfect. And we never will be. And that is quite wonderful.

Genius Answer

It’s the wildest song on the album, I think. I imagine all these people dancing naked around a fireplace. That’s very innocent. Our bodies are very pure, beautiful things and it’s a shame that we’ve managed to make it something not pure. It’s the sexualisation of innocent things that makes the world dangerous.
