You Owe Me One Lyrics
Now there's a shadow falling over our faces
Doubt forever in our hearts
And in a while we'll stop to pick up the traces
We won't find the missing parts
[Pre-Chorus]
Buy me a ticket, I'll go to the Bahamas
I need a rest from our daily little dramas
Yes, I really do
[Chorus]
Aha, mhm (Now look what you've done)
Look what you've done
I'm missing all the fun (I've missed all the fun)
Baby, you owe me one
Aha, mhm (It's my turn to run)
My turn to run
A chance to feel the sun (Feel the sun)
Baby, you owe me one
[Verse 2]
I wasn't ready for this kind of intrusion
I was taken by surprise
Now both of us are in a state of confusion
Hesitation on our hearts
Something unwanted has entered our existence
I think it's better to view it from a distance
Yes, I really do
[Chorus]
Aha, mhm (Now look what you've done)
Look what you've done
I'm missing all the fun (I've missed all the fun)
Baby, you owe me one
Aha, mhm (It's my turn to run)
My turn to run
A chance to feel the sun (Feel the sun)
Baby, you owe me one
Aha, mhm (Now look what you've done)
Look what you've done
I'm missing all the fun (I've missed all the fun)
Baby, you owe me one
Aha, mhm (It's my turn to run)
My turn to run
A chance to feel the sun (Feel the sun)
Baby, you owe me one
[Interlude]
[Chorus]
Aha, mhm (Now look what you've done)
Look what you've done
I'm missing all the fun (I've missed all the fun)
Baby, you owe me one
Aha, mhm (It's my turn to run)
My turn to run
A chance to feel the sun (Feel the sun)
Baby, you owe me one
Aha, mhm (Now look what you've done)
Look what you've done
I'm missing all the fun (I've missed all the fun)
Baby, you owe me one
Aha, mhm (It's my turn to run)
My turn to run
A chance to feel the sun (Feel the sun)
Baby, you owe me one
Aha, mhm (Now look what you've done)
Look what you've done
I'm missing all the fun (I've missed all the fun)
Baby, you owe me one
Aha, mhm (It's my turn to run)
My turn to run
A chance to feel the sun (Feel the sun)
Baby, you owe me one
About
“You Owe Me One” was originally recorded in 1982 for inclusion on what would have been ABBA’s ninth studio album. It would instead end up being released as the B-side to “Under Attack” when it was released as a single in 1982.
Like much of ABBA’s later material, the song’s lyrics explores the theme of a strained relationship from the perspective of a scorned partner. The track’s sound is cold and electronic, featuring heavy use of vocoders much like its A-side, “Under Attack”.
“You Owe Me One” first appeared on CD in 1994 as part of the box set “Thank You For The Music”, and would later appear on all remastered editions of “The Visitors”, except the 2001 remaster where it was excluded because Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus thought of it as being “just a jingle”, according to biographer Carl Magnus Palm.
