The last song of This Summer is named after a month that can not only be considered the end of the summer, but also the end of Alessia being on the road with Shawn Mendes; October.
In an interview, Alessia Cara revealed the topic and inspiration of “October” before its release:
[It] is about my experience of [Shawn Mendes'] tour and making new friends and stuff.
Alessia wrote her whole EP while being on Shawn Mendes' “The Tour” but “October” is the only song written about it.

I felt like […] the last few months of […] making all these friends was a really healing [and beautiful] experience for me […] and I really just felt like I needed that. And so, I wanted to make a song to encapsulate that feeling that you know is gonna go away eventually.
I don’t wanna say anti-October… I mean, kind of anti-October. I just think like what it represents is what I have an issue with. Because it’s like kinda like it just reminds me of like the death of things.
