Losing My Mind Lyrics
Oh, legacy is a picture of me
On holiday in the late seventies
Drying after swimming, my father calls to me (Look over your shoulder)
Sunny disposition at the end of the jetty
Now that picture is displayed
With fifteen other missing boys
[Chorus]
You and I
Cut from the same cloth
You and I
Cut from the same cloth
This time
[Verse 2]
Montag
You're in drag
(Oh, es war einfach)
Feel this birthday
Without us
(All the change in my pocket is enough to celebrate)
[Chorus]
You and I
Cut from the same cloth
You and I
Cut from the same cloth
This time
I'm losing my mind
I'm losing my mind
I'm losing my mind
I'm losing my mind
I'm losing my mind
I'm losing my mind
I'm losing my mind
I'm losing my mind
And, oh, is it easy to remember
What it takes to be a man?
Oh, is it easy to remember
What it means to be a man?
I'm losing my mind
I'm losing my mind
I'm losing my mind
I'm losing my mind
I'm losing my mind
I'm losing my mind
I'm losing my mind
(I will pray for us)
[Chorus]
You and I
Cut from the same cloth
You and I
Cut from the same cloth
This time
You and I
Cut from the same cloth
You and I
Cut from the same cloth
This time
About
‘Losing My Mind’ was inspired by a traumatic experience Newman went through in his teens, with the singer delving into the mind of a serial killer for the track.
- Tom Skinner for NME
“I try to avoid talking about it too much, but a friend of mine’s sister was murdered,” he explained. “It was really a horrible thing to go through as a group of friends, but I think I’ve always been kind of drawn to that in some kind of weird, traumatic way.”
- Joe Newman

It’s probably one of the most overt and unapologetic comments on the really dark side of the human condition and what you can see in human behaviour that is so far removed from what you know as a civilised person. It’s a serial killer who kills young children. It’s not very nice, but I suppose I’ve always been comfortable talking about it because my father was a probation officer and he worked for the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, which is connecting all areas of the justice sector and social care and psychiatry into understanding sex offenders so that they can be treated. I was always fascinated by his commitment to keeping people safe by re-evaluating how to look after people who are afflicted with these issues.
