“Church” is the first single from the EP. The single’s lyrics capture the complexities of adulthood and faith, it covers redemption from a life lived imperfectly.
Aly said to Teen Vogue: “When we decided to release “Church” as the first single, we felt that it was a song that didn’t necessarily speak about the institution of church but a place that makes you feel at home, whether that’s being with your friends and family, a memory of yours, a best friend, kind of going back to your roots is what I think that song is touching on.”

This song came on pretty quickly. We knew we wanted to use the line “I need a little Church,” which originally was placed in “Star Maps” and then not used in that particular song. It was important to us to have a song on the EP that felt like a confession — a song that touched on redemption and rebirth.
