Teach Me Tonight (Live, Hootenanny, London, 2004) Lyrics

Did you say I had a lot to learn?
Well, baby, don't think I'm trying not to learn
Since this is the perfect spot to learn
Go on, teach me tonight

Starting with the A-B-C of it
Roll right down to the X-Y-Z of it
Help me solve the mystery of it
Ooh, go on, teach me tonight

The sky's a blackboard high above you
If a shooting star goes by
I'll use that star to write, "I love you"
A thousand times across the sky

One thing isn't very clear, my love
Should the teacher stand so near, my love?
Graduation's almost here, my love
Ooh, teach me tonight

I'll use that star to write, "I love you"
A thousand times across the sky

Oh, one thing isn't very clear, my love
Should the teacher stand so near, my love?
Graduation's almost here, my love
Oh, teach, oh, teach me tonight

About

Genius Annotation

Originally composed in 1954 and released with vocals by American jazz singer Janet Brace, “Teach Me Tonight” once again captured the hearts of jazz enthusiasts in the ‘80s after American jazz singer Frank Sinatra covered it. It was most likely Sinatra’s version that touched Winehouse and inspired her cover of it.

Winehouse has always been a devout Sinatra fan, going so far as to name her debut album after him. The CD booklet for the album also thanks Sinatra for inspiration, along with a multitude of other acclaimed R&B, soul, and jazz performers.
