“deep fake” is the third single and first track off of Architect’s 10th studio album, the classic symptoms of a broken spirit.

This song features powerful synths and glitchy effects bundled with a heavy opening riff and crunchy breakdown. It continues the trend of powerful two-step arena choruses, present in the previous two singles.

The song itself appears to be about how we as a species have mostly given up on saving this world, evident in lines like “We see the cards and we go to fold” and “We’re hiding like a shadow in the dark”. We’ve tried and tried again and hope has begun to fade, causing us to drift off into the darkness faster than ever before.

Another interpretation is that we don’t want anyone to control us, but at the same time, we do. We don’t want to have to make decisions, so we enlist others to do it by giving them power. However, these people become tyrants that bring us into the abyss, while we just wanted to exist and live our lives. We then proceed to blame each other for everything going on, yet we still don’t want to do anything. As a result, we sit and hide in the shadows.
