10 Asia: What kind of song is your title track ‘I Need U’?

Rap Monster (translated): The melody is clear and it’s an emotional track. There’s flute sounds included also. First off, looking at the lyrics, it shows the sadness of someone trying to hold onto a love that has already ended on basic conversational words. Honestly, the reason why we chose this as our title track was because although youth can be beautiful, it can be short and wander off; like a shadow, it has a reckless danger to it. Rather than focusing on the beautiful aspect of youth, we wanted to shine the light on the dimmer and overshadowed parts. Although it describes a love story between youth, it has lyrics that can describe the risks also.

In an unboxing of the 화양연화 The Most Beautiful Moment In Life Pt.1 album (English translation of unboxing here) by Suga, one of the members of BTS, he said:

I suffered a lot while working on “I NEED U”. This one too, well, how many times have we adjusted this… nearly around… Ah, we really suffered a lot. There were originally as the title track before, there were 3 more, 3 other tracks. Even when I play those tracks, they’re good, but there were parts I was disappointed with.

Last minute, before the album came out, after the entire album was made, another beat came and so we thought, “Let’s make one with this!” As soon as I heard the beat [I thought], “Ah, this is it”. I just remember working on it frantically.

So the track was finished, and we’re monitoring it, with all the members gathered together. We really felt that this one would do well. […] I think working on it was an unforgettable process.
