Easy Days (Demo) Lyrics
All the things we tell ourselves
To feel a little better, better
All the lies we tell ourselves
When we don't have an answer
Don’t let me lie down
On the world, the world around us
Don't let me get down
When we're dancing in the dark
[Chorus]
’Cause I don't want to fall back again
Back into the easy days
Everything was so simple then
Little fires burned away
Oh won't you help me start a fire?
Come on won't you help me start a fire?
'Cause I don't want to fall back again
Back into the easy days
[Verse 2]
All the things we tell ourselves
To feel a little better, better
All the lies we tell ourselves
When we don't have an answer
Don't let me lie down
On the world, the world around us
Don’t let me get down
When we’re dancing in the dark
'Cause I don’t want to fall back again
Back into the easy days
Everything was so simple then
Little fires burned away
Oh won't you help me start a fire?
Come on won't you help me start a fire?
'Cause I don’t want to fall back again
Back into the easy days
[Bridge]
Omen, you're a fire in the past
Overlooking trouble gone bad
Sugarcoat nostalgia, get lost
And why'd you want to be that guy?
[Chorus]
'Cause I don't want to fall back again
Back into the easy days
Everything was so simple then
Little fires burned away
Oh, won't you help me start a fire?
Come on won't you help me start a fire?
'Cause I don't want to fall back again
Back into the easy days
'Cause I don't wanna fall back again
Back into the easy days
About
Originally appearing on the exclusive Target Edition of Bastille’s Doom Days, the song was eventually released in December 2019 as the 14th track of the album’s extended version, Doom Days: This Got Out of Hand! It is a nostalgic reminder to many fans of lead singer Dan Smith’s pre-Bastille career, as it initially sounds strikingly similar to the artist’s work from years prior. The song itself tells of our ever-changing climate and the widespread ignorance surrounding it. While the days when Smith was younger were “easy,” he knows that “fall[ing] back again” would be of no help. He urges the public to stop letting the bystander principle take hold — to stop lying to themselves and to actually take a stand.
