How Was Your Day? Lyrics
How was your day?
Was it okay?
'Cause we haven't talked in a while
Forgotten how you used to smile
What do you look like?
Remember when we used to fight?
[Pre-Chorus]
And I miss getting angry at you
'Cause at least I felt something new
[Chorus]
'Cause I miss all the fuck ups we've had
'Cause even then, you're the best I've had
[Verse 2]
Call me up late
Say it's okay
'Cause I'll be away for a while
I can't remember your smile
You used to kiss me
Guess it's not hard to believe
[Pre-Chorus]
That I miss getting angry at you
'Cause at least I felt something new
'Cause I miss all the fuck ups we've had
'Cause even then you're the best I've had
'Cause even when I'm miles away I know
You'll still want me as usual
But the thing that I know is that I wanna be with you
[Verse 3]
How was your day?
Was it okay?
'Cause we haven't asked in a while
Remember when we used to smile
[Pre-Chorus]
You used to miss me
Guess it's not hard to believe
That things have to change like the weather and the days
[Chorus]
But the thing that I know is that I wanna be with you

The song is a four-track emphasizing it’s perfectly imperfections, just like it’s perfect lyrics revolving around an imperfect situation: missing a seemingly ex, and wanting to connect and/or talk with them again.

An October 2020 Louder Sound article quotes beabadoobee saying:
I wanted to emphasise the rawness of the lyrics with the song sonically which is why I recorded it on a four-track with all the little mistakes and vocal wobbles included. I wanted the music video to feel nostalgic to me, to include all the people I cared about, it took me back to the time I first started making music.
I recorded it in my boyfriend’s garden. Lyrically, it talks about my journey and about how hard it was being away from home and missing people. And I feel like it only made sense to go back to my roots on the way I recorded it, on a really shitty four-track, just me and my guitar with a missing string. It was really refreshing. There was always talk about doing a ‘Coffee’ moment on this album. Like, ‘Let’s strip it back to just you and your guitar.’ And I really wanted it, but we didn’t know how we were going to do it. Then lockdown happened and I was like, ‘I’m going to do it, Daniel Johnston style.
