It’s the first song that I wrote after I quit boozing. I just started writing this after probably a week out of not having any alcohol and I was like ‘this is the first song I’ve written that has like an ounce of hope in it’. The song’s just about how I’m over it. I’ve spent four records and an EP talking about how much pain I’m in and all these struggles that I’ve had but I’m kind of at this part of my life where I’m starting to realize that there’s a lot more that I can do that I haven’t been doing to take control of my own well-being and health.

This is the first song I wrote for this album. I wrote it a week after I quit drinking and realised that I wanted to do something different with this record. ‘Riptide’ is really the mission statement of this whole album, and hopefully every album to come.
