Wire Lyrics

Dead weight follows your name
In the dim light
Lose the dull ring

Dead weight follows your name
In the dim light
Lose the dull ring

Leave me on my own accord
With those who will stay
Rather quick than be short
With little time on this face

Careless whispers
In the corner
I never should have told you
Ooh yeah

Amputate the rhythm
Keep your balance
Addressing the rule
With your silence

Now our lines are cutting
Our lines are cutting
Our lines are cutting
Our lines are cutting
Time to go in
Oh Lord
Are those eyes here again?

Shortness of breath and
No room to spare, my friend
Reasons treading water

Amputate the rhythm
Keep your balance
Addressing the rule
With your silence

Now our lines are cutting
Our lines are cutting
Our lines are cutting
Our lines are cutting

Dead weight follows your name
Dead weight follows your name

Genius Annotation

“Wire” is one of the earliest songs recorded by Bearstronaut, originally from their 2009 release titled Broken Handclaps. To date, this song is the only surviving song from that release, with the band reviving the song through a live studio performance in 2013, which was later released on SoundCloud. The rest of the release remains lost and is unavailable to purchase or download anywhere.

What did Bearstronaut say about "Wire"?
Genius Answer

In a 2012 interview, Paul Lamontagne explained that “Wire” is the only song from Broken Handclaps that the band still plays. Lead singer David Martineau further commented:

“Wire” was the first song where we got more than, “Oh, you guys sound pretty good.” We got, “You should stick with that, and hone in on that.” We asked some good friends, and they guided us a little bit. A lot of friends we had in college, we still live with them, they’ve kind of seen the evolution, and between them and playing Boston a lot, that song carried over. I like to think of it as the first good song that we still keep intact.

Martineau briefly commented on the song again, as well as the Broken Handclaps release, at the end of this live studio performance in 2013:

So this song was a part of the first batch of songs that we released as a band. And we were kind of all over the place, we were really aiming to make every single song sound different.
