Passionfruit Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Listen
Seein' you got ritualistic
Cleansin' my soul of addiction for now
'Cause I'm fallin' apart, oh yeah
Tension
Between us just like picket fences
You got issues that I won't mention for now
'Cause we're fallin' apart. Oh yeah

[Chorus]
Passionate from miles away
Passive with the things you say
Passin' up on my old ways
I can't blame you, no, no
Passionate from miles away
Passive with the things you say
Passin' up on my old ways
I can't blame you, no, no

[Verse 2]
Listen
Harder buildin' trust from a distance
I think we should rule out commitment for now
'Cause we're fallin' apart. Yeah, yeah
Leavin'
You're just doing that to get even
Don't pick up the pieces, just leave it for now
They keep fallin' apart (Not my baby, yeah-ah)
[Chorus]
Passionate from miles away
(Oh, oh)
Passive with the things you say
(Passive with the things you say, now)
Passin' up on my old ways
I can't blame you, no, no
(I can't blame you at all)

About

Genius Annotation

‘Passionfruit’ describes the struggle in a crumbling relationship. Drawing on themes of tension, trust and regret, “Passionfruit” explores an attempt to reconcile love, and start anew.

The track was released to celebrate the signing of ‘Benny Sings’ to the independent record label Stones Throw Records.

The track is actually a remix/re-work of Drake’s track “Passionfruit”. The same lyrics, chords, and structure is used, but with “Benny’s” unique twist.

Tim van Berkestijn (Benny Sings) spoke of using this track as a backdrop for writing sessions in L.A. He also strove to create a ‘Pop’ soundscape for this track, which will likely be reflected in his upcoming album City Melody:

I love that real popular music can sometimes still reach me. Pop music has always been my goal.
