One Night in Bangkok (Original Demo) Lyrics

[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]

Drop dead, Sodom and Gomorrah
The city you’re in is the pit of your horror
Don’t keep money in your pocket
Put it in a safe and be sure you lock it

Better be careful!

[Verse 2]

Right here, things are going to happen
The reason for my semi-singing and rappin’
I hope you didn’t bring your mother
Tighten your belt ‘cause we’re taking off brother

You’re going to take the trip of your life my friend!

[Chorus]

One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble
Too close between despair and ecstasy
One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble
Can’t be too careful about your company
I have felt the devil walking next to me

[Verse 3]

This town is where we’re going to visit
The place [?]
Those guys are going to go bananas
You’re in for a fight so forget about your manners

I think you’re gonna like it!

[Verse 4]

I’ve got a funny way of yelling
But doesn’t it fit with the story I’m telling?
This is an honour to the city
My coming here, being clever and witty

Are you ready for a ride? Are you ready my friend?

[Chorus]

[Instrumental break]

[Verse 1]

[Verse 2]
[Chorus x 2]

About

Genius Annotation

This demo, which was never officially released, is the earliest incarnation of the later hit song One Night in Bangkok sung by Murray Head.

During the writing of the concept album Chess, from which this song is pulled, Björn Skifs would write music and Tim Rice would write lyrics. After Skifs wrote One Night in Bangkok, he filled in some dummy lyrics to emphasize the rhythm and notes. Most of these did not make it into the final version, but Rice loved the chorus and a few other small pieces and so left them in.
