Sweet Blasphemy Lyrics
Through sadness, you have taught us to be one with the crowd
Unveil the sacred order, hymns of falling down
You told the greatest stories, of love and bleeding crowns
But to the sick and hungry, you cannot be found
[Pre-Chorus]
We are young and we are strong
Through strength in self, we become
Something more than they can be
I raise my heart and say
[Chorus]
That I won't believe this lie
I know there's something more inside
When darkness is all you see
This is our sweet blasphemy
[Verse 2]
Silence the crooked holy, unchain the tied and bound
No time for allegory, one true reigning sound
Unite the lonely mourning, a simple servant now
We are the only glory, hear us screaming loud
[Pre-Chorus]
We are young and we are strong
I raise my heart and say
That I won't believe this lie
I know there's something more inside
When darkness is all you see
This is our sweet blasphemy
[Bridge]
We are young and we are strong
Through strength in self, we become
Something more than they can be
This is our sweet blasphemy
[Chorus]
That I won't believe this lie
I know there's something more inside
When darkness is all you see
This is our sweet blasphemy
That I won't believe this lie
I know there's something more inside
When darkness is all you see
This is our sweet blasphemy
About
Andy was raised Catholic but after being kicked out for not being “Catholic material,” he started to doubt God’s followers, finding it hypocritical that those who were meant to spread God’s love and light could turn out to be so unfair and judgmental.
“I will say that this song is not anti Jesus or anti religious. It is anti exclusionary thinking, it’s against the idea that your faith is a weapon against someone else who doesn’t share it…I hope you can find enjoyment in this song regardless of your religious or spiritual background as that’s the intention. Hope and joy isn’t for some, it’s for all and no one religion or way of thinking should be seen as the only light in the darkness.”
