About
BLACKPINK takes us on a nostalgic ride with their new title track “Shut Down” from their 2022 sophomore album, BORN PINK. Kicking off with a sample of Paganini’s 1826 popular violin melody, “La Campanella,” the music video for “Shut Down” shows us how BLACKPINK is moving on from the past and starting a whole new era.
Similarly to their 2020 B-Side track “Pretty Savage,” “Shut Down” is a clap back at the hateful comments they received during hiatus. But it doesn’t matter how long BLACKPINK is away, whenever they come back, they’ll always be what everyone’s talking about.
In the music video, BLACKPINK closes down previous sets from older music videos. Once they close all of them, they reach an elevator showing them that the only way left is up.

‘Shut Down’ is a track that takes the consistent charisma BLACKPINK has shown so far to the next level. The combination of classic and trendy hip hop beats is memorable and it has the charm of feeling new while also being very catchy. I also think that the sensible and witty lyrics and the point choreography that depicts ‘Shut Down’ instinctively will become fun elements. I hope that the emotions and exciting thrill we first felt are conveyed to everyone who listens to the song.
We gathered in the recording studio altogether and listened to the demo. When the intro came out, I think all the members were speechless and just looked at each other. Through just our eyes, we were telling each other, ‘this is the title track!’ While listening, I naturally started to imagine the performance.
