Stupid Boy / Girl Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I was sleepin' on a subway train
You were aware I was scared
What on earth is your name?
It was only for a second and then you came
I was askin you to change your name
You were impressed that I knew
That you were still in the same game
Over burden that was taken inside your brain

[Chorus 1]
I was a stupid boy, I was a stupid girl
Raised by society to change my ways

[Verse 2]
Is it fair that you're stuck in the ways
Of your beliefs and your dreams
They go up in the same flames
I was followin' believers inside my brain
You were sleeping on a subway train
You were aware I was there
What on earth is her name?
It was only for a second and then you came

[Chorus 2]
I was a stupid boy, I was a stupid girl
Raised by society to change my ways
Notify next of kin, I will be traveling
Safe from the fallen stars that rain down on me
[Bridge]
I don't know if you saw me
But I've changed my ways
Stuck inside another life now
I will try to be

[Chorus 2]
I was a stupid boy, I was a stupid girl
Raised by society to change my ways
Notify next of kin, I will be traveling
Safe from the fallen stars that rain down on me

Genius Annotation

Some of this was written during Ex Cops but never worked with our sound. This song is special to me – I tried many times to make this something and I kept coming up short. It finally came together in LA. This song is about the struggle and bravery of trans people specifically, but really anyone who’s queer and dealing with shit. Small towns, scared people, mall culture. It is about death and rebirth.
