The Marshals Are Dead Lyrics
[Intro]
One, two, three, four
[Verse 1: Kele Okereke]
Attention! Unbelievers
Fashion victims, opportunists
Blood sport, cop killer
Don't trust art, don't trust culture
[Chorus: Gordon Moakes, Kele Okereke]
Cancel your thoughts out forever
Milk it and strain it to residue (Forever!)
An insult that dilates forever
Forever!
Passing from history that's made from arrangements
Of Tannoys and cordons in symmetry (Forever!)
That cancel forever
Forever!
[Instrumental Break]
[Verse 2: Kele Okereke]
A curse on your houses
Rivers run with your sons' blood
No case for extenuation
All the marshals are dead, dead, dead, dead
One, two, three, four
[Verse 1: Kele Okereke]
Attention! Unbelievers
Fashion victims, opportunists
Blood sport, cop killer
Don't trust art, don't trust culture
[Chorus: Gordon Moakes, Kele Okereke]
Cancel your thoughts out forever
Milk it and strain it to residue (Forever!)
An insult that dilates forever
Forever!
Passing from history that's made from arrangements
Of Tannoys and cordons in symmetry (Forever!)
That cancel forever
Forever!
[Instrumental Break]
[Verse 2: Kele Okereke]
A curse on your houses
Rivers run with your sons' blood
No case for extenuation
All the marshals are dead, dead, dead, dead
[Chorus: Gordon Moakes, Kele Okereke]
Cancel your thoughts out forever
Milk it and strain it to residue (Forever!)
An insult that dilates forever
Forever!
Passing from history that's made from arrangements
Of Tannoys and cordons in symmetry (Forever!)
That cancel forever
Oh, forever!
[Bridge: Gordon Moakes]
Spring breaks
In ranks and in boulevards
A country that makes us
But cannot contain us
[Instrumental Outro]
Cancel your thoughts out forever
Milk it and strain it to residue (Forever!)
An insult that dilates forever
Forever!
Passing from history that's made from arrangements
Of Tannoys and cordons in symmetry (Forever!)
That cancel forever
Oh, forever!
[Bridge: Gordon Moakes]
Spring breaks
In ranks and in boulevards
A country that makes us
But cannot contain us
[Instrumental Outro]

Genius Annotation
The original version of this song, which spelled “Marshals” with two L’s, was self-produced by Bloc Party and was set to a slower tempo with more raw vocals. It was featured on the Bloc Party EP.
The second, more commonly known version was produced by frequent collaborator Paul Epworth and mixed by on-again, off-again bandmate Eliot James.
Such was the popularity of the song, the band’s official fan club was named ‘The Marshals’.
