About

Genius Annotation

“Bezos II” is the follow-up to “Bezos I,” a tongue-in-cheek critique of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and the uber-wealthy in America. This half of the song congratulates Bezos, presumably for becoming the richest man in the world in 2018. Amazon has been heavily criticized for both the exploitation of its workers and eliminating competition by undercutting smaller businesses.

In the Netflix special, “Bezos II” follows “I’m Gonna Work On It Forever,” where Bo Burnham talks about how producing INSIDE was a way to distract himself from the COVID-19 pandemic and give himself a purpose. Returning to the original theme of “Bezos I” without particularly insightful lyrics can be interpreted as a play on the notion of running out of ideas or stretching out concepts he has already visited.
