Without You Without Them Lyrics

[Verse 1: All, Dacus]
Give me everything you've got
I'll take what I can get
I want to hear your story
And be a part of it

Thank your father before you
His mother before him
Who would I be without you, without them?

[Chorus: Dacus, Bridgers, Baker, All]
Speak to me (Speak to me, speak to me)
Until your history's no mystery to me
Talk to me (Talk to me, talk to me)
Until the words run dry, we'll see eye to eye

[Verse 2: All]
I'll give everything I've got
Please take what I can give
I want you to hеar my story
And be a part of it
Thank my father beforе me
His mother before him
Who would I be without you, without them?

Genius Annotation

“Without You Without Them” is the opening track to boygenius’ debut album, the record.

A short, harmonious acapella track, stylistically it seems to pick up where their 2018 self-titled EP left off with the haunting “Ketchum, ID”.

An interview with them sums the song’s subject matter:

….a love letter to the mortifying ordeal of being known, written in a pandemic world that violently reminded us how much we need each other."

Genius Answer

When we were doing the thing where we had to sing just a cappella, I was like, “Oh, this is it…” I don’t sing very much by myself these days — like, just in my house, or performing alone. So singing with others and having the instrument literally be your body is a really embodying experience. And then to have that be kind of like the entire agency of your expression … It’s really nice to have it sit in a complementary way with y’all. It feels easier to access.
